Who else but Moopie dares to release lost indie-pop grails alongside contemplative ambience, four-to-the-floor cuts and forward-thinking soundsystem music, while comfortably playing festival stages and club around the world?

Over the past few years, Melbourne-based label A Colourful Storm has established itself as one of the most unique and forward-thinking labels in the world. The brains behind it is Moopie, a specialist DJ, label boss and singular voice within contemporary electronic music.

Moopie – born Matthew Xue – started turning heads with his DJ sets impressing the likes of Donato Dozzy and DJ Nobu on their early Australian tours. Developing his sound and playing at festivals (Dekmantel, Nachtigital, Pitch) and clubs (Berghain Kantine, Tresor, Globus) along the
way, he established A Colourful Storm as an imprint to give a platform for emerging artists and new life to forgotten classics.

As A DJ, Moopie is daring and eclectic, connecting strands from far corners of electronic music history and pushing them forward alongside contemporary and unreleased cuts: an open-minded approach that can be heard in his Boiler Room and Dommune appearances, Resident Advisor Podcast, Rinse FM shows, B2B sets with Helena Hauff and Ben UFO, recordings for Ghostly and The Trilogy Tapes and dancefloors around the world. His curatorial vision is reflected in the diversity of A Colourful Storm, which has been acclaimed by The Wire Magazine and regularly hosts shows at Cafe OTO, as well as being the first label to champion breakout artist Mark (aka Klon Dump) while introducing Christoph de Babalon to a new generation of fans.

The sharing of musical discovery remains at his core. Weaving different eras, crossing genre boundaries and connecting bourgeoning micro scenes, Moopie stands out as a uniquely creative force.
